opent in een nieuw venster In Gelvandale, near Port Elizabeth on the beautiful south coast of South Africa, is the Liebenhaus child care centre. Gelvandale is a poor area with a lot of problems, such as a high unemployment rate, domestic violence, substance abuse and neglect.

Liebenhaus is a home to 20 boys, ranging in age from 3 to 16. All the boys that live here have come from difficult backgrounds - assault, abuse, neglect - and are placed in the centre by a judge. They are all boys that were not given a fair chance in life, and instead had terrible childhoods.

Director Ellen Fischat is a former refugee who fled the country because of apartheid. In 2005 she decided to return to her roots and, once back, she got actively involved in taking care of street children in Gelvandale. In addition to running the care centre she also runs a soup kitchen, that feeds a large number of children every week.
