Costs Agape
It costs Agape a certain amount of money to host volunteers. We look to you to raise and donate at least this minimum amount to Be More so we can pass it on to Agape.
A detailed explanation of what makes up these costs can be found below. An explanation of why it costs you money to volunteer at a development project, can be found at the bottom of this page.
To volunteer at Agape, the minimum recommended donation is:
£ 768.00 per four weeks.
These amounts are built up as follows:
|
Accommodation Transport Reservation maintenance Vol.House Program coordinator Communication project/ Be More Food Be More Costs Project donation Water/gas/electricity |
£ 145.00 £ 157.00 £ 32.00 £ 45.00 £ 9.00 £ 63.00 £ 200.00 £ 45.00 £ 72.00 |
| Total | £ 768.00 |
How are minimum donations determined?
The minimum recommended donation amounts are determined as follows:
- We assume an average of 5 volunteers per four weeks. This may sometimes be more, sometimes less. Whenever there are more than 5 volunteers on average, the extra donations will always go directly towards Agape. Therefore, your donation is never lost.
- The transport that is used for the volunteers, also takes the children of Agape to and from school. Therefore, your contribution towards transport also ensures the children can go to school.
- The volunteer house where you stay is rented by Agape.
- The program is designed to make sure Agape can count on volunteers for a long time. This is the only way to guarantee continuity for the children and the project. This means that part of your donation is reserved for future expenses.
- The program coordinator works on a voluntary basis. He or she does receive an expense reimbursement.
- It costs Be More £200 per volunteer per 4 week period. See the explanation below for more information about this.
All amounts are based on previous experience. The minimum recommended donation amounts are reviewed on a yearly basis and updated when necessary. What is included in these costs can be found under program.
Why?
Why should it cost you money to work voluntarily for someone else? Shouldn't people be glad that you are even coming at all? These are questions a lot of volunteers ask, and rightly so.
The reason there are minimum recommended donations is actually quite simple: the projects you are going to work at have little money even to fund their own work. However much they may need your help, the project absolutely does not have money to cover your costs. Therefore, these expenses are covered by volunteer donations. However, Be More can give you all kinds of tips to try and raise the minimum recommended donation for your program, for example by having it sponsored by a company or organizing an event.
Be More's Costs
As you can see in the overview above, it costs Be More £ 200 per period of four weeks to run the volunteer program. These costs include promotion, coaching, placement and management of the project. We understand and recognize the feeling that many volunteers have, of "not wanting to spend money on that, I'd rather go straight to the project". However understandable, this is an idea that only works for the short term. Without promotion and management, our projects may not have any volunteers, or the programs may not run well. The projects themselves would be unable to continue into the long term and we could risk losing the program entirely.
Be More will of course use your donation responsibly. As a charity we are 100% open and transparent about our finances, as can be read in the annual report that we publish each year.
Minimum recommended donations may be subject to change.
In Africa, already 12 million children have lost at least one parent to AIDS.
