The Dream Centre
With the large increase in the number of HIV and AIDS patients in South Africa over the past few years, the need for good care in many places has also increased. It is for this reason, that the Dream Centre opened its doors in 2002.
The hospice offers palliative care to AIDS patients, in many cases until they pass away. After its opening in 2002 with a capacity of 20 beds, the centre now has 120 beds, with plans to extend to 240 – only a small part of what’s needed in the region.
The Dream Centre not only cares for its patients, but also for their families and others around them. The team consists of doctors, nurses, social workers, physiotherapists, psychologists, spiritual counselors and HIV counselors.
Patients in the centre only get occasional visitors. Entertainment and someone to speak with are therefore very much appreciated. In addition, help with caring for the patients and nursing them is indispensable. Volunteers play a very important role at the Dream Centre.
