I Care

I Care is a non-profit organization devoted to finding meaningful and sustainable solutions to the challenge of street children in South Africa. One of these solutions is the I Care ‘family home’ in which foster parents live with boys who have recently been rescued from the streets. I Care family homes offer a safe and trustworthy environment, in which the children can learn to be children again.The foster parents teach them what it’s like to grow up in a stable family environment in the hopes that they will not return to living on the streets.

The children, exclusively boys, vary from ages 8 until 18 years old. Most of the boys have not had regular education and this is why I Care offers them a specialized curriculum suited to their needs. In the afternoon, after class, the boys get training in sports; something they all love! I Care volunteers will help out in one of these family homes and will also be asked to support the foster parents and teachers at the I Care school.
