Ithemba Program Details
Everything you need to know about the program at Ithemba.
Practical
- Duration of your stay: 4, 8, 12 or 16 weeks. Staying longer is possible Leaving dates and availability: check availability.
- Costs: check costs.
- Working hours: Your working hours are decided with Ithemba, but normally you work Mondays to Fridays and you have the evenings and weekends off.
Included
The costs of this program includes:
- Accommodation: The accommodation for volunteers is rented by Ithemba and is close to shops, restaurants and the beach.
- Meals: Together with the other volunteers you will look after your own meals. Costs for this are included in the program. You will shop together every week to buy groceries for the rest of the week. Luxury items are of course at your own expense.
- Transport: Transport consists of a rental car which is available to volunteers at all times. Your transfer from and to the airport is also included.
- Communication: There will be time each week to go online and use your weblog. We advise you take your mobile phone with you as you will receive a pre-paid sim-card upon arrival.
- Preparation: Prior to your departure there will be a preparation day where you will be able to meet us and the other volunteers.
- Program coordinator: There will be a program coordinator present at Ithemba. He or she will personally welcome you to the project, make sure you feel at home, and will be someone you can go to at all times.
- Helping you prepare: We will help you to book your flight, insurance, itinerary and all other things you might come across.
- Certificate: To show that you have voluntarily worked for a development project, Be More will give you a certificate once you've returned home.
- Donation project: Because Be More finds it very important to also support our partner projects financially, a portion of the amount you pay will be donated to the project.
Not included in the program costs are:
- Flight to South Africa
- Travel Insurance (obligatory)
- Vaccinations
- Luxury expenses on souvenirs, extra groceries etc.
- Travel: Be More's program manager and project coordinators in South Africa will give you advice on possible weekend trips you can book to nearby tourist attractions
Conditions
To volunteer at Ithemba you should be:- Minimum 18 years old
- Creative, independent, flexible and patient
- Proficient in English
- Have no objection to sharing accommodation with other volunteers
- Enthusiastic
- Having a drivers license (is best but not obligatory)
