Umthombo

opent in een nieuw venster There are thousands of children living on the streets of Durban, South Africa. These children who should be carefree and enjoying their life, instead fend for themselves, sleep on the pavement and have no one to look after them. This is where Umthombo makes a difference.

Umthombo feeds the children, teaches them, offers them medical care, rescues them from their life on the streets and gradually tries to prepare them for a life back home or in a place of safety. Moreover, Umthombo aims to change the way that society perceives and treats street children. It is a unique South African organization led predominantly by former street children.

NB. This is an incredibly inspiring project but also one of our most difficult. Volunteers must be 25 years or older and we are specifically looking for those with a medical background in nursing, medicine or psychology. Those with a background in physical education are also welcome.
