Umthombo program details

Details of the volunteer program that Be More offers at Umthombo.

Working hours: Monday to Friday, variable times with consultation. You are free to do what you want the rest of the time.

The following is included in the programme:

Accommodation: Accommodation is in a house rented by Umthombo. Located in Durban it is close to shops and restaurants as well as the project.
Food: Together with the other volunteers you take care of your own food. Costs for this are included in the programme. You go grocery shopping together every week. Luxury articles are at your own expense.
Transport: Transport needed during your volunteer work is included, as is airport pick-up and drop-off.
Communication: There's time to use the Internet on a weekly basis. We also recommended that you take your mobile; a prepaid sim card is very cheap in South Africa. At the volunteer house, there is a land line on which you can be called or you can make calls with a phone card.
Program coordinator: A coordinator is present. This coordinator will welcome you to the project, will make sure you feel at home, knows what you can do at the project and is your contact for all questions or problems.
Preparation: Before you leave, we're able to help you book your ticket, get insurance, prepare for your trip and help with any other questions or problems you might encounter.
Certificate: To show that you have voluntarily worked for a development project, Be More will send you a certificate once you return home.
Project donation: Because Be More thinks it's very important to also support the project financially, a small part of your volunteer fee will go directly to the project.

Not included in the programme are:

Ticket to South Africa
Compulsory travel insurance
Vaccinations
Expenses for Internet, souvenirs, luxury groceries, etc.
