What do volunteers do at Umthombo exactly? 
- Medical care: Volunteers travel with the mobile clinic to treat children living on the streets. You will encounter children with various problems such as skin ailments, injuries, drug and alcohol addictions, malnourishment, dehydration.
- Language and culture: Umthombo's ultimate goal is to help children escape life on the street. Therefore, when you speak to the children, listen to their stories, tell them about your own life and make a connection with them, you will help the children to broaden their world view. This will help them to see they have the chance for a better life and that there is help for them.
- Sports and entertainment: Organizing games, sports and events for the children is a great way to get to know each other, become friends and most importantly gives the children a chance to be children and have fun.
- Awareness and outreach: Umthombo aims to change the way that society perceives and treats street children through educating society as to the realities of the street child experience. Giving the children a voice through campaigns, media attention, workshops and other events is an important aspect of a volunteer's role at Umthombo.
