Agape Child Care Centre

Agape Child Care Center, situated in Waterfall (near Durban, on the east coast of South Africa) is an orphanage that accommodates about 60 children. Most of these children have lost their parents due to HIV/AIDS. Be More volunteers help to take care of these children. They bathe the smallest children, help the older ones with their homework and join in their games to interact with all the children and entertain them. Additionally, they also help the staff of the orphanage with the cleaning and maintenance.

Agape was founded in 1996 by Zodwa Mqadi, an HIV/AIDS counselor who saw an increasing amount of children ending up alone after losing their parents. She started taking care of these children in her own home and later at the Agape Child Care Center.

In January of 2005 a fire destroyed the largest part of the centre. No one was injured but the centre was declared to be uninhabitable. The children were temporarily transferred to a renovated shipping container. Immediately after the fire the ex-volunteers dedicated their time and money in order to rebuild the child center. At this time, the rebuilding of Agape has finished and the children live in a beautiful new orphanage!
